Alex Mavrakis

Session Title: DigiPlus - Harnessing the power of AI towards an adaptive learning experience

Alex Mavrakis is the GCC Area Manager for Express Publishing with a 18 year long experience in ELT, in Europe and the Middle East. Passionate about Educational Technology he is the designated Digital Champion for the Gulf States. His main interests involve the development of online educational materials and the use of online resources in the classroom. He is based in Dubai with his family, and enjoys spending his free time with his two daughters.


Prof. Wafaa Salem AlYaseen

Session Title: Implementation of Learning Theories in the English Language Classroom

Dr. Wafaa Al Yaseen is a distinguished Professor specializing in English language teaching and curriculum development at Kuwait University, College of Education. Since 2015, she has served as the Consultant and General Coordinator of the Parents’ Forum for the Kuwaiti Association for Learning Differences (KALD), where she plays a pivotal role in supporting parents and enhancing educational resources for students with learning differences.


Catherine Hollings

Session Title: Turning Information into Insights: Driving Student Progress with Online Platforms

Catherine Hollings is a dedicated educator and language enthusiast with over 20 years experience in the field of ELT. As a teacher trainer for National Geographic Learning, she empowers teachers to make language learning more relevant and motivating by using National Geographic Learning's inspirational materials to bring the world to the classroom and the classroom to life.

Basayel Bonashi

Session Title: Artificial Intelligence Applications and Digital Transformation to Enhance Scientific Research

Basayel H. Bonashi, Head of Secondary English Department, has a strong background in English education and professional training. She specializes in English for intermediate and secondary levels, and is PCELT certified. Basayel is deeply committed to advancing educational practices, having participated in numerous workshops and conferences focused on artificial intelligence (AI) in education, digital transformation, and scientific research.


Josh O'Neil

Session Title: Understanding The Science of Reading 

Joshua O’Neil is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in English Language Teaching (ELT) and educational sales across all levels of education within the Middle East and Africa. Having held leadership roles at Cambridge University Press, John Wiley & Sons, Oxford University Press and is currently the Regional Director Middle East & Africa for Amplify. Joshua has driven significant growth through strategic partnerships and innovative market approaches. Joshua’s expertise in developing tailored educational solutions has led to remarkable achievements, benefiting thousands of students across the region. Joshua is passionate about advancing education excellence across the region at all levels of education.

Dr. Alanoud Alsharhan

Session Title: Let Us Reignite the Spark between Translation and TESOL Classrooms

Alanoud Alsharhan is an Assistant Professor of Translation Studies at Kuwait University. She earned her PhD in Translation studies from UCL in 2022. Her research focus is on subtitling taboo language in audiovisual material from English to Arabic. She is also interested in audience reception and the emotional response of subtitled taboo language.




Dr. Jessica Lee

Session Title: Trailblazing Leadership -  Advancing TESOL through Technology and Personalized Learning

Dr. Jessica Lee has been working and living in Kuwait for the last 7 years. She has served as a principal, curriculum coordinator, adjunct professor, and teacher in the private education field here in Kuwait and as a teacher in the United States. Her passion is for personalizing the learning experience for students and leading educators through the systematic changes taking place in the post-COVID educational field. Digital citizenship and Web3, to her, are fundamental to supporting students in their preparation for the future ahead.


Dr. Esra Aleisa

Session Title: Building Society through Education for Wellbeing

Dr. Esra Aleisa, an Associate Professor of Industrial and Management Systems Engineering at Kuwait University, holds a master’s degree and a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, earned in 2001 and 2005 respectively. Her collaboration portfolio includes working with the United Nations Commission Committee (UNCC) on environmental remediation efforts following the Gulf War. Additionally, she partnered with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on a project focused on national resource efficiency, cleaner production in Kuwait, and water assessment.

Dr. Aleisa contributed as an author to the science, technology, and innovation (STI) report published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Currently, she serves as a consultant to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), working on transboundary water management projects.

Passionate about education, Dr. Aleisa is dedicated to its improvement on a national scale. She is the the founder of the education initiative named “From Her We Shall Set Sail”. She loves Bees.
