We have arrived at the end of another year, the first in a brand new decade. Nobody could have ever predicted that we would be forced to shift to a completely virtual learning environment when the pandemic emerged in March. But, like many others worldwide, we managed to put our hand to the plow and to adapt our teaching approaches accordingly.
Our highly successful TESOL conference in February led to a growth in membership as well as our board of directors. We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, members, partners and the like for their involvement in our organization. We have had a productive semester of monthly virtual webinars to keep our members engaged and mentally stimulated in this brave new world we find ourselves navigating the best we can.
What have you learned this year as an educator, leader, professional? How have you grown in your profession? Where do you hope to be next year? Take a moment for self-reflection on the year that has passed. Record your successes, shortcomings, and goals for the coming year. Don't be hard on yourself, but use this opportunity to take stock of your professional development and how you plan to enhance it in this imminent New Year.
Feel free to watch this inspirational TED talk as we all learn to pivot our way of thinking and working in this new educational landscape because "the world you and I were born into no longer exists" (Dr. Cindy Trimm). Happy Holidays! Stay safe, maintain your self-care and prepare for a promising year ahead.
